1 pound Italian sausage, hot or mild depending upon taste
1/2 yellow onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 can (15 1/2 ounces) garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed
1 can (15 1/2 ounces) black beans, drained and rinsed
1 can (14 1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes (include the liquid)
1 can (14 1/2 ounces) beef broth
1 tablespoon fresh basil (or 1 teaspoon dried basil)
Shredded Parmesan cheese for topping
Cook sausage, onions and garlic together in a Dutch oven until sausage is browned. Drain off the grease.
Add beans, tomatoes, broth and basil to the pan.
Cover and simmer for 10 minutes until beans are warm.
Ladle into bowls and sprinkle each serving with shredded Parmesan.
